games:net Berlin Europe kindly invites you to join us in our upcoming online panel via Zoom on the early evening of May 5th. In this online talk we will take a deeper look into an award-winning indie studio from Berlin: Maschinen-Mensch.

Maschinen-Mensch is a Berlin-based independent game studio founded in 2014 by two AAA developers who left the mainstream industry to experiment with new forms of generative storytelling and create innovative games. The studio is best known for the “Curious Expedition” series.

Together with moderator André Bernhardt and two representatives from Maschinen-Mensch we will explore the history, game releases, their success and the upcoming plans of the studio.

Speakers:

Mascha Camino (Game Designer)

Mascha Camino is a game designer at Maschinen-Mensch, currently working on Curious Expedition 2. During her studies she enjoyed volunteering at events, grew to love the community and eventually became an integral part of the local game scene with initiatives such as Femisphere (highlighting diversity in the games industry), the Indie School Trip, Devolution, and one of Berlin’s biggest indie dev gatherings, Talk & Play, which she is moderating and co-organising with Lorenzo. She relishes roguelikes and is always looking for cute indie games to play.

Lorenzo Pilia (Producer)

Lorenzo Pilia works as a producer at Maschinen-Mensch, which means he is taking care of a ton of small different things every day, so that the rest of team can stay focused and create great games. He is also the outreach manager at Codecks, a project management tool for game developers. When no pandemic is taking place, he co-organises with Mascha a popular bi-monthly event called Talk & Play. Previously he was the programme manager for A MAZE. / Berlin – International Games and Playful Media Festival, a role he has held from 2014 to 2019.

Moderator:

André Bernhardt

André Bernhardt runs IndieAdvisor & Company for 9 years and offers external business development and consulting for indie developers. Besides he is curating the devcom Indie Expo and also teaching at different colleges as well as moderating events and talks.
